EarlyBird256Update: Secondary School Scholarships Secured with Busoga High School

After enduring one of the longest lockdowns in the world, Uganda is finally opening its schools again. We’re thrilled that many of the country’s children will once again be able to attend classes and receive the education and stimulation they need. In addition to this great news, EarlyBird256 has its own exciting announcement to make — After attending an EarlyBird256-sponsored workshop, a headteacher of a local high school was inspired to do something. The teacher, Ms. Olivia Nambi from Busoga High School, helped secure the new scholarship program for the students.

Any students interested in attending secondary education will pay only half tuition, while those who pass their PLE Exams in Division I get full scholarships for the four years of their O level secondary education. Our collaboration with Busoga High School will put us in a position of ensuring that the students who attend our programs are supported through secondary school.

We will continue tutoring programs for the candidates, as well as our signature Porridge Program, which makes sure students don’t need to learn on an empty stomach. One of the most important things we do for the students is helping them prepare for their PLE Exams. These exams play a big part in determining the opportunities that will be available to them and whether they’ll be able to continue their education. The year we started tutoring the students at Rev Nayenga Primary School was the first year in the school’s history that 100% of the students passed their exams. That was the class that got the secondary school scholarship.

That is the impact of doing little things with passion. 30 students signed up for the opportunity which is available to them for the next four years. This also means that in addition to creating the EarlyBird256 space, where we host our own workshops for students and their parents, we are now working with two local schools: Rev Nayenga Primary School and now Busoga Primary School.

We’re beyond grateful for the generosity of Busoga High School, and now we need to make sure as many children as possible reach secondary education. The support of the EarlyBird squad and donations from our followers allow us to feed the children, pay our tutors, and provide the children with a safe space to grow. Join us in our mission and help us create a better future for Uganda’s next generation by investing in secondary education!
