Partner Spotlight: Soles4Souls helps EarlyBird256 step up to empower the Kamuli Community in Uganda

From mantra to action! EarlyBird256 partnered with Soles4Souls, continuing to turn #doinglittlethingswithpassion into tangible impact.

EarlyBird256 received a generous donation of 540 pairs of shoes from Soles4Souls a few quarters ago. Soles4Souls is a nonprofit organization that turns shoe and clothing donations into opportunities by collaborating with communities like the ones we work with, which lack these resources to get through the day.

The EarlyBird256squad has always been in awe and supported Soles4Souls's work, and we are now grateful to be in partnership with them. The shoes arrived in Uganda at the end of December and were distributed amongst our Kamuli Community. We distributed the shoes at Rev. Nayenga Primary School and Busoga High School. We put a few pairs aside for the students not in the schools but active in our community workshops. Many people need easy access to proper shoes, which leads to more than discomfort.

Why Shoes Make Such a Difference

  • Infections: Walking barefoot leaves the skin exposed to parasitic infections.

  • Sharp objects: Sharp objects, like broken glass and thorns, can cause cuts and puncture wounds.

  • Hot surfaces: Walking barefoot can cause burns and blisters.

  • Animal waste and urine: Coming in contact with animal waste is unpleasant and increases the chance of infection.

  • Snake bites: Walking barefoot increases the risk of snake bites, which can be lethal for children in Uganda.

In addition to comfort and safety, receiving a new pair of shoes gives the children a sense of pride and lets them know that there are people, organizations, and opportunities for them to connect with and gain strength. We are making them feel seen and safer in our space. We are grateful for this partnership.
