Passing Notes: Class Resolutions from Rev. Nayenga

We are so grateful for your time and your contribution to our ongoing mission. On January 31 st, the students of Rev. Nayenga Primary School had a small end of year lunch party sponsored by EarlyBird256 where they wrote their New Year Resolutions. Despite what is going on in our country, and the way the pandemic has affected our communities, we are still still writing down our resolutions and ready to put in the work: Godspeed.

EarlyBird256 received more than 30 letters from students and grouped them into three to four categories. They are serious about passing their Primary Leaving Exams, an extension to the tutoring program was asked. An extension of the Porridge Program with lunch and a school trip for when they are done with their exams.

we are happy that their resolutions aligned with ours as well. We want the students to have as much access to educational information, nutritious meals in schools and for them to see Uganda. We might have to start with the nearest surrounding cities but these are the resolutions for Rev. Nayenga and EarlyBird256.

Passing  Primary Leaving Exams (P.L.E)

For the past few months, the teachers have been preparing the Primary 7 students for their P.L.E exams. As they finish their primary school, we want to encourage them to dream of continuing their education. For many, they will be the first to go to secondary school so It is important for the students to do their best so that they can be eligible to get into Secondary school.

Justine Kusasira

“My resolution is to pass P.L.E and go to Senior in order to start my journey of helping my family. I need to dig a borehole at our home when I’m in Secondary School.”

Owen

“My resolution for 2021: I plan to study for my P.L.E exams. This means that I need to revise books, do practice tests for better results. After my exams, I plan on starting my poultry rearing project as I plan for Secondary School.”

Turn breakfast into lunch

Nine months into the porridge program, we realized that there is a more important need for lunch. Our tutoring programs are running throughout the Christmas break as we prepare them for their March 26th, 2021 exams. With the interest of running the programs longer, there is a request of turning breakfast into lunch. So we manifest a lunch program as we continue #DoingLittleThingsWithPassion

“My resolution is to have mid-day meals at school. I want to study for my P.L.E exams so that I can join St. John Bosco Kamuli. After my studies, I want to become a nurse.”

Justine Kusasira

“Mid-day meals at school are needed at school because of the covid-lockdown this season, we did not get good yields as we expected”

Go on a class trip

One of the things that we care about is the students appreciating and taking care of the environment. Because of transportation, we know how impossible it can be for some to see more than their villages. A school trip would be a nice treat as they complete their primary school and move on to the next part of their growth. Below are some of  the places that the class suggested. Some are deep into the city but the school is not too far from the River Nile.

River Nile, the longest river in Africa (and the world, depending on who you are asking) Uganda has many attractions that people travel to see, we want the students in the rural areas to experience them as well.

In 2021, after taking my P.L.E, I want to go on an educational tour. To know places like the River Nile and how Lake Victoria looks like. I’m rearing chicken so that I get money to pay for Secondary School. I wish you a happy new year!”

Your support will go towards improving the classrooms, food for the porridge program as well as teachers’ salaries.
