EB256 Porridge Program

The Porridge Program is created to promote nutrition in especially primary schools in rural areas. Too many children are learning on empty stomachs and still have to take the same National Exams taken by those who have the privilege to have their basic needs met.

We start with breakfast because it is the most important meal of the day. Our job is to create a space where the students know that they will not learn on empty stomachs. We start by doing little things with passion. For $80 per week, we provided breakfast to 25 students for three days a week. The difference the results made was quickly noticed. Once we observed the need for providing food security for the primary candidates, we incorporated our creative writing program.  The budget includes salaries for two teachers and the cook.

This is our classroom. Grateful for the space and the teachers providing a learning environment. The community and students are beyond grateful with the little they have, one of the many reasons we want the girls to have options.

Adding a minor kitchen renovation. The EB256 thought is that it will be easier to feed the students if the quality of the kitchen is increased with a storage option.
